In this session, Instructional Technology Facilitators will be grouped in pairs, and together, the group as a whole will create a living, evolving Web 2.0 site that will operationalize the National Education Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS). These standards and performance indicators guide our professional development of teachers across the state such that they can leverage technology in their classrooms to educate the North Carolina student body for the 21st Century. To start this session there will be a demonstration of how to collaboratively investigate what a given NETS standard means in relation to the reality of teaching in a ubiquitous computing environment. ITF pairs will then analyze and create comparisons between what a given NETS standard or performance indicator may look like in a traditional classroom versus a ubiquitous computing classroom. The final deliverable will be a rich resource comprised of multimedia, web objects, and narrative that can serve to guide ITF’s in their professional development strategies for their schools/districts.
A. Listen to the explanation and rationale for the session.
B. Observe the modeling of the "Bringing NETS to Life" by Lizzie and Joselyn.
C. Get into pairs. You will be given a Sub-NET from a facilitator.
D. Initially, brainstorm with your partner, from the perspective of the teacher, what this sub-NET would look like in a traditional classroom versus a 1:1 or ubiquitous computing classroom in the discipline that is specified.
Brainstorm a real or made-up scenario that addresses the standard in a 1:1 or ubiquitous computing classroom. Facilitators will help you if needed.
From the perspective of a technology facilitator, ask yourself if you could identify this performance indicator in one of your staff given this scenario.
E. Create a 2 minute video describing your scenario and how the sub-NET is addressed. Facilitators will help you if needed.
Obtain a FlipCam.
Shoot your video in one take. You may have to try this several times to get one that you like.
Make sure that you identify the sub-NET in your video (by number and the by description) and specifically how it is met in your scenario. Get creative! You can use cue cards.
Hand your Flip Cam to one of the facilitators and they will upload it.
>>Facilitators will have an upload station for FlipCams once your video is complete. At this station the video will be uploaded to OnFizz and then can be embedded into your page.>> username: onetoonePD password: onetoonePD

- Brainstorm a real or made-up scenario that addresses the standard in a 1:1 or ubiquitous computing classroom. Facilitators will help you if needed.
- Be SPECIFIC and CONCRETE about where in the scenario the sub-NET is being addressed and complete the written scenario on your sub-NET page. Click on "IV. NETS Standards for Teachers" below to access the NETS for Teachers page.
- From the perspective of a technology facilitator, ask yourself if you could identify this performance indicator in one of your staff given this scenario.
